Q. What does Prolman Associates do? A. Prolman Associates is a specialized management firm. All of our associates are experienced business executives who use their knowledge and leadership to provide business owners, senior management and investors the assistance required to guide troubled businesses to stability, profitability, sale or other desired results. These businesses are often beset by operational conflicts and/or financial crises.
Q. How long has Prolman Associates been in business? A. Founded by David Prolman in 1987, Prolman Associates was incorporated in 1996. Prolman's background includes extensive experience in private business as a senior manager in the retail food industry. Additionally, he has ten years of experience in the corporate banking environment. As Vice President and regional head of a problem loan group of Bank of America in the mid 1980's, he realized the need of the business community for a stable team of professionals experienced in dealing with businesses in turnaround, troubled, and/or crisis environments. He identified the demand for a more efficient and cost effective alternative for providing assistance to these businesses than was available at that time. Prolman Associates was established to meet this need.
Q. What type of companies use your services? A. Prolman Associates has experience assisting almost every type of business. The primary qualifications that we require of our clients is that there be an operational, financial or management conflict, ranging from any type of significant business problem(s) to any ultimate crisis, perceived or otherwise. Our experience is that our associates provide the optimal benefit at the least cost for companies in these situations.
Q. How is Prolman Associates different from a (CPA) accounting firm? A. Offering much more to clients than accounting skills, Prolman Associates' management specialists are well grounded in management, organizational and operational as well as financial skills. We are able to "roll up our sleeves" and work alongside our clients with no need or requirement to excuse ourselves due to conflicts as auditors. Each associate is experienced in defining issues, identifying solutions, and implementing corrective plans of action. These are not typical skills found in abundance in any one accounting firm.
Q. Why should I retain a specialist to undertake a series of tasks that perhaps could be completed by my existing staff? A. The reasons are threefold. First, you and your staff have to maintain the normal work requirements of your jobs. That is, you must continue to sell and provide your products or ser- vices. The actions required to resolve your particular situation require additional separate efforts to ensure that the most desirable and attainable results occur. Second, it is difficult to discern which are the critical issues affecting your business if you are constantly dealing with the day-to-day operations of a company in a difficult and stressful environment. Prolman Associates, as a third party, brings an outside perspective and is able to identify and address those critical issues. Additionally, our presence as a third party communicates to your creditors, vendors and others that you are serious about solving the problems affecting your business. Finally, Prolman Associates is experienced in these difficult situations. Our management specialists do not have to go through a learning curve in respect to what are allowable, appropriate and accepted actions in these situations.
Q. If Prolman Associates does not have an office in my locale, why shouldn't I retain the services of a local crisis manager or turnaround specialist? A. The proximity of our main office has never been of consequence in working with our clients. Every management specialist from Prolman Associates provides on-site assistance to clients. Most often, there is no charge for commute time to your principal place of business. Additionally, while a local individual or firm may provide some required services, we are able to completely fulfill the requirements of the job. This results in a more efficient and cost effective approach for you.
Q. Our experience with large consulting or accounting firms is that we never see the partner except at meetings. We seem to be paying premium fees for junior level personnel. How does Prolman Associates differ? A. Each client receives the full attention of a senior associate from Prolman Associates. Prior to the start of each assignment, the senior associate is introduced to you, as well as any junior associates that are needed and/or requested. You have the opportunity to not only interview Prolman Associates as a firm, but also to interview the exact individual or individuals with whom you will be working.
Q. How does Prolman Associates charge for its services? A. Prolman charges based on not only the effort and time required to assist our clients, but also on the benefit received by our clients. This begins with management specialists usually billing on an hourly basis, at a reduced rate compared to the marketplace. If appropriate, an additional fee is charged based on achieving certain benchmarks or objectives as set in advance with the agreement of the client.
