WorkSmart! originated at GE in 1988 as Work-Out!™  This process was Jack Welch’s strategy to rid the organization of low-value/non-value-added work and to build a new GE culture characterized by “Speed, Simplicity and Self-Confidence”.  Driven from the top, it proved to be universally applicable.  The process worked across all GE businesses from financial services to industrial products and was deployed across any and all boundaries.
